Rest Well, Tita Mil

Apr 28, 2015

“Gusto ko pa magkwento!!”, she writes on her white board telling us she wants to talk but she can’t. But she still tried. Then we smiled and laughed in between.

Tita Mil was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2014. After few medications, she decided to stop and just live a happy life. In between the pain and struggle, we found refuge on little laughers and simple happy moments with her. Though with an oxygen mask on, she still manages to talk, to smile, to joke and to laugh. She taught us the true meaning of love and faith and compassion and strength. She fought with faith. She lives with love.

Tita Milcah has a really strong faith that she was ready to go anytime. But she didn’t. In a conversation I had with her, I asked her “Kaya mo pa ba, tita?”. She answers a simple “Kakayanin, para sa kanila.” She managed to stay a bit longer not for herself, but for the people she’d be leaving behind. That’s selfless love.

On the night of April 25, she had her last deep breath. There’s no struggle. There’s no pain. Now, she is home.

I would never be used to writing about you in past tense. Your body may not be here, but your memories will live on forever. And I want to make sure everyone remembers you forever, here’s a little tribute I made. I hope you’re smiling up there while watching this video. I hope I made you happy.

We miss you so much. Life wouldn’t be the same without you. Rest well, Tita Mil. Rest well.
